The Swan Festival of Lights an event put on by the Annalakshmi Cultural Centre of WA and Temple of Fine Arts is on again this year at Langley Park from the 22 to 26 October 2014 to celebrate Deepavali (Diwali) in Perth.

Wednesday 22 October 2014  - the day that the festival kicked off also happens to fall on the auspicious day of Deepavali – a special day when people from around the world celebrate the ancient Hindu festival of light triumphing darkness. Wishing all the local people who celebrate this festival in Perth a happy Deepavali.

As with previous years, attendees of the festival can look forward to scrumptious food put on by the Annalakshmi Cultural Centre of WA, along with a great line up of performers, consisting of both local and international groups. Musical genres will range from Indian classical through to Western classical music. Famous Bollywood singer Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sitar maestro Ustad Usman Khan will be present to entertain the crowds during the week of festivities.

For those on the hunt to pick up some arts and crafts, visit the Lavanya Arts stall to pick up some Indian handicrafts including beautifully made clothes, bags, ornaments, jewelry and costumes.

Vegetarian cuisine from Annalakshmi will be available each evening with a range of Indian curries, dosais, uttapam, parathas…(yum!) along with other favourites such as nasi lemak, mee goreng and samosas.

There will be live food demonstrations of dosas, puris and parathas being made as expert chefs show off their culinary skills in the kitchen to make these delicacies fresh from the pan.

Entry to the week of festivities at the Swan Festival of Lights is free with food available from 430pm daily, and performances nightly from 630pm, along with nightly fireworks.
