Application or renewal of an Australian passport can be made in person through Australia Post or at the Australian Passport Office

Apply or renew passport at Australia Post

Australia Post carries out the functions of passport renewal and applications on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and is also able to interview passport applicants.

Collect a passport application form at Australia Post or complete the application form online at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Bring along completed application form along with any documents as specified on the application form.

Find your nearest Australian post which provides a passport service.

Make an appointment with your local Australia Post branch for a passport interview.

Bring passport application along with any documents.

Arrange for 2 passport size colour photos. Photos can either be taken at the Australia Post or at a photo shop.

Lodge and pay for passport application at Australia Post.

Your passport will be sent to you by mail.

The Australian Passport Office endeavours to issue your passport within 10 working days of receipt of your passport application.

Note: only some Australia Post branches have the passport service. The Australia Post also has facilities to take passport size photos and credit card facilities for payment.

Applications can be lodged at your Australian Passport Office, mainly for special circumstances. For this option, you need to call the Australian Passport Information Service to make an appointment.

Exchange Plaza can be accessed either via Sherwood Court (off St George's Terrace) or via The Esplanade. If you are accessing Exchange Plaza from St George's Terrace, Sherwood Court is not too far from London Court heading east along St George's Terrace and on the opposite side of London Court.

Opening hours: 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.

Apply online at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade offers an online service for obtaining application forms and tracking progress with your passport application. However, the forms cannot be lodged online. This still needs to be done in person at an Australia Post Office or under special circumstances, at the Australian Passport Office.
