The Eight Mountains, Italian Film Festival

My partner and I headed to Palace Cinemas in Raine Square on a Monday evening to watch The Eight Mountains (Las Ocho Montañas)– one of the movies that will be featuring in the upcoming Italian Film Festival that screens across Australia.

Set in the mountains of Italy, it is about a special friendship that begins between 2 young boys, Pietro and Bruno, and continues through to adulthood, spanning over three decades.

A lot of things happen during their lifetimes as they see each other meet the challenges of adulthood head on – whilst supporting each other as friends.

This epic movie at 2.5 hours is a monumental piece created by Director / Writer couple Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch.

It is a unique movie that explores deeply the many facets of human relationships – in particular friendships between men, the love that binds families and the influence of our parents as role models.

Its exploration is deep, unearthing what makes us tick and the drivers of who we are in our search for meaning, bounded by our loved ones (those close to us), and the influences they have on the decisions that we make in our lives.

Over time, as we reach maturity, our perceptions on who we thought our parents are and why they did what they did, sometimes changes – as it did for both of the main characters in this movie.

The Eight Mountains is a heartfelt story that will take the movie goer on an epic journey with its characters, immersed intimately in following the ups and downs of their lives.

What radiated in this movie was the special bond between the 2 main characters that was always a constant, not perfect, but always there.

The Eight Mountains is a unique, beautiful movie with spectacular scenery that is beyond breathtaking. Its cinematography which was filmed in Valle D'Aosta was amazingly beautiful.

Directors / Writers Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch and Writer Paolo Cognetti have crafted an exquisite movie that goes beyond the ordinary.

Winner of 14 awards including Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival 2022, mark this one as a definite to watch at the Italian Film Festival.

Its on as part of the ST. ALi Italian Film Festival at Luna Palace Cinemas, which runs from 28 September till the 25 October in Perth.
