Having been one of the many Perth residents who were blown away by La Soirée's award winning WA debut at Fringe World Perth 2015 (“Best Cabaret”), I was looking forward to seeing what La Soirée's lads and ladies had in store for us this time around at Fringe World Perth 2016.
Scanning the program, I was pleased to see some of my favourite performers from last year, including Captain Frodo and the English Gents (Hamish McCann and Denis Lock), along with a plethora of new performers to be thrilled by.
The sell-out crowd was ready and raring to go as the lights dimmed and Miss Frisky kicked off proceedings - “Finally!”
What followed was two hours of marvellously madcap mayhem, muscular mobility and more! These performers are at the top of their game, they are up close and personal (sometimes very personal) and each fresh act stamps their own unique style on proceedings, taking centre stage in a constant stream of new experiences to savour.
There are too many performers to give a blow by blow account of proceedings, so I'll just pick out a few of my personal highlights:
Yammel Rodriguez making cigars and single strap acrobatics look incredibly smooth, sexy and seductive;
Denis Lock showing his delicate side with his bubble blowing prowess – (I think my favourite act of the whole night – an instant classic!);
Hamish McCann's pole routine brought power, poise and precision to Perth as he defied gravity while leaving the men envious and the ladies “feeling good” - judging by the screams of appreciation coming from the audience!;
Satya Bella made hula hoops both cool and entrancing to look at – which is amazing when you consider how stupid most of us look when trying to do a single hula hoop – let alone five or six;
Captain Frodo once again brought winces, wonder and more than a couple of “wtf?” moments as he wove his way through two tiny tennis rackets in his own wild and woolly way. Wildly funny too!
La Soirée is sexy, inspiring, awesome, jaw-dropping, funny, eye watering, mesmerising and more than a little bit naughty. Just pick any two or three of the above and you'll find an act that fits the bill – a tribute to the versatility of the performers.
La Soirée are back with a bang at the Fringe World Festival in Perth until Sunday 6 March 2016.
Don't miss out!
