If you are on the hunt to purchase some West Australian themed books or gifts, pop by to the gift shop at the State Library of WA – they’ve got a great selection of books by WA authors and hand crafted gifts by local artists. It’s not always easy to find shops in Perth that stock a good range of local books and gifts, so on a recent trip to the State Library Shop, I was rather impressed to browse their extensive range of WA produced items.
Their selection of WA books extends to both the fiction and non fiction genres. The books are either written by local WA authors or have a West Australian theme. Whether your interest is in military history, learning about the history of Rotto, or browsing a beautiful landscape photography pictorial book of the Karajini National Park up in the Kimberley region, you’ll be sure to find a good book to sink your teeth into!
They have a section of books published by Hesperian Press, a well known Perth publisher that excels at publishing books with an Australiana theme. Hesperian Press are always on the hunt for old memorabilia – manuscripts and photos relating to life in the bush of yesteryear in Western Australia.
The shop provides a fantastic range catering to all sorts of reading tastes. They have a section for those requiring large print books, those with an interest in biographies, an indigenous section, military history, and a flora and fauna section, just to name a few.
Outside the library, you’ll find some pre loved bargain books marked at special prices, ranging from cookery books to hobbies, all the way through to personal development and business.
Their range of children’s gifts were also a delight to browse through – some cute soft toys, games and children's books, and if you need to pick up some nice stationery, gift cards, or calendars you’ll also find a good range available at the State Library book shop.
The State Library Shop is located inside the entrance of the State Library entrance facing the big screen.
Their opening hours are 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 12pm to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, and they are closed on public holidays.
