The much awaited movie The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society will be showing at Luna Palace cinemas around Perth from tomorrow.
Based on the best-selling novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, it chronicles the enchanting story of Juliet (Lily James), a beautiful and charismatic writer who receives a surprise letter one day from Dawsey (Michiel Huisman) on behalf of his book club, the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
Intrigued by his letter, Juliet sets off to Guernsey and during her time there she discovers more than she bargained for, as the book club members recall the hardships of German occupation during war time, friendships made, and the complexities of death and grieving for loved ones.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a feel good movie that will appeal to a wide audience, with its romance element, spectacular coastal scenery, and post-war era fashion making for an entertaining chick flick. Directed by Mike Newell, director of Four Weddings and a Funeral, and clocking in at just under two hours, the movie sped by.
Downtown Abbey devotees will also enjoy seeing versatile actor Matthew Goode in the role of Sidney Stark, as Juliet’s editor.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society reminds us that just as for the members of the book club, in the midst of adversity you still can find a glimmer of sunshine to brighten your day.
The movie opens at Luna Palace cinemas around Perth on 19 April.
