What’s on in Perth over this WA Day long weekend?

It's here again - so get your walking shoes on and join a Jane’s Walk.

Inspired by Jane Jacobs, it is a free citizen led walking event that is held around the same time each year in over 190 countries around the world.

Jane Jacobs was a famous urban activist whose book “The Death and Life of Great American Cities” challenged traditional urban pplanners of its time, and highlighted the key concepts of social capital, mixed primary uses, and “eyes on the street” in creating liveable cities.

As Jacobs remarked at the time:

“Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.”

This year, there will be 3 awesome citizen led Jane’s Walks around Perth – Northbridge, Victoria Park and Fremantle.

The Vic Park Mix Janes Walk

It’s the locals that make Victoria Park (or "Vic Park" to the locals) a great place to live! Walk with residents Michele and Gerard as they shares some fascinating stories of our area’s past and present. There will be an opportunity to meet with local guest speakers from shops and houses in the area.

From Rotten Potatoes to a Golden Bonanza, Fremantle

The potato famine in Ireland in the 1850s decimated a nation forcing many to leave for new lives abroad. Fremantle and Western Australia benefited greatly from this tragic Irish exodus.

Walk with Mike and Joy Lefroy (from Museums Without Walls) through Fremantle’s historic West End to meet some famous and not so famous Irish immigrants who found themselves in one of the most isolated outposts of the British Empire. Begin and end the tour outside Kidogo (Bathers Beach).

Making Sense of the City - Northbridge

Get deep into the different layers of Northbridge on this sensory walking tour! Join David Snyder (from Spaced Out Placemakers) and Nic Temov to discover the city through your primary senses.

Each of the above walks will run for approximately one and a half hours.
