Local Cuisine

Your visit to the South West won’t be complete if you do not tempt your senses with some of the local cuisine offerings. Some of the reasons you should make a pit stop at a local restaurant or cafe are:

•    Abundance of Fresh Produce –South West is rich with organic produce. Some farms will allow you to discover and pick fresh fruits or vegetables to add to your hearty meal. In addition, you won’t forgive yourself if you miss out on the rare seasonal truffles growing in the Manjimup region.

•    Award-Winning Chefs –There are numerous award-winning chefs who have made the South West home. The fresh harvest lifestyle has tempted these culinary artists to stay and create their masterpieces at some of the top restaurants and wineries in the area.

•    Meals for Everyone –Whether you’re looking for a local dish or an international delicacy, you can trust the South West to deliver. With the help of the locally grown livestock and produce, the chefs will create a meal that will tantalize your senses and assure your return to the area.

Local Wines

There are over 100 wineries in the Margaret River Region alone, meaning the South West has one of the biggest selections to choose from. The humidity in the region, the climate, soil and viticulture practices all contribute to making the area famous worldwide. Even the smallest winery can come up with 3.5 tonnes per year, whereas the largest produce 7,000 tonnes (somewhere like Watershed Winery in Margaret River). You have a choice between red and white wines, but the chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon are a must-taste for every gourmet wine lover.

If these aren’t enough to motivate you to discover the wine region in the South West, think about the pleasant experiences you can make there. Most of the area’s wineries are surrounded by natural landscapes which will thrill you as you savour a chilled glass of wine. In addition, some include cafes where you can sit down and enjoy a wonderful meal.

Aside from the wineries and vineyards, you can try the local wines during the annual Margaret River Wine Region Festival. Held in Margaret River, this autumn festival is an important event for the gourmet and gourmand. Not only will you have full access to most of the area’s wines, but you will also get the chance to taste local dishes and participate in numerous fun events.

The wine and food of the South West area is a must-have for everyone who appreciates the finer things in life.

Benji Leggate and his family fell in love with the lifestyle that Margaret River offers. For more insights from a local about about the cafes, restaurants and wineries you can visit in Margaret River, visit The Margaret River Guide.
