Visitors to Western Australia quickly figure out that we like our black swans. Although not absolutely the only place in the world you might see them, we West Aussies consider black swans our own, and they grace our state flag – and you certainly won't see any white swans on your Perth travels. One of the best places to see large numbers of black swans is at Lake Monger, a wetland area slightly north of the Perth CBD. And Lake Monger has even more attractions than just its black swans, making it a great place to spend an outdoor afternoon.

For bird lovers and those wanting to be closer to nature, take a visit to the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary, an urban wetland located in Bayswater, approximately 8kms from the city and easy to get to.

Hyde Park is a favourite amongst locals and is situated in Perth at the backdoor of Northbridge. It is a magic park characterised by its majestic Plane trees over a century old. These lovely deciduous trees mark changes in the season from their burnt orange autumn leaves to their shedding of leaves in winter.

Point Fraser Demonstration Wetlands
Point Fraser is a relatively new recreational reserve located on the Swan river foreshore only a few steps away from the Perth CBD. These fabulous wetlands are made up of a series of lakes, boardwalks, children's playground and interpretive trails.
