Having been one of the many Perth residents who were blown away by La Soirée's award winning WA debut at Fringe World Perth 2015 (“Best Cabaret”), I was looking forward to seeing what La Soirée's lads and ladies had in store for us this time around at Fringe World Perth 2016.
In Loaded: A Double Bill of New Plays, Black Swan State Theatre Company and the Black Swan Lab present a double header of fresh new plays revolving wobbily around the themes of friends and guns.
Neither play is quite your usual take on matters, as the playwrights examine these common issues through a quite different perspective.
Did someone say “What, no tomato?!”
There are truly no tomatoes to be found at Tomato Lake (not today anyway!) – however the lake has much to offer both locals and visitors to Perth.
Located on Oats Street in the suburb of Kewdale - an easy 20 minute drive from the Perth CBD will take you to a scenic nature reserve with offerings to suit everyone.
Tomato Lake is the centre piece of the reserve, surrounded by wetlands, and a series of boardwalks that snake across the lake, and attract an abundance of birdlife.
Here are some of the many activities to enjoy at Tomato Lake:
Woof Woof! The Riverside Barkfest is on Sunday 22 November, from 8am to 1pm. It’s going to be one big party for dog lovers as they come together at this event, to be held at the scenic Riverside Gardens in Bayswater.
A musical about bipolar disorder sounds like a premise for a wacky, Marx brothers comedy or an over-wrought, depressing tragedy. And while Next to Normal by Black Swan State Theatre Company certainly does have its share of frenzied highs and gut-wrenching lows, it remains firmly grounded in the reality of a family dealing with mental illness and its repercussions.
The wonderful Margaret River region is now just a three hour drive south of Perth offering a great midweek escape for city dwellers and an easy option for those heading in from other states. The big “problem" is that there is so much choice you can spend as much time deciding where to go as you can enjoying the local produce and scenery.
To make the most of your break think ahead and set a loose itinerary. To help with that, here’s what we did to maximise our chill time and still have plenty of fun, food and wine.
