The golden glow of the lights in the foyer of the State Theatre Centre of WA in Perth beckoned last night as my better half and I looked forward to attending the performance of Managing Carmen co-produced by Black Swan State Theatre Company and the Queensland Theatre Company.
We seated ourselves comfortably before the show, and enjoyed the ambiance and beautiful wooden interior of the Heath Ledger Theatre as we watched the audience arrive at a steady pace before show time.
With so much wide open space, a balmy climate, and a culture of outdoor living, the Western Australian capital of Perth is a wonderful place for a family holiday.
Freedom is the key when travelling with children, so find yourself self-catering accommodation and don’t tie yourself too rigidly to an agenda.
Perth is so laid-back that it’s easy to just go with the flow.
Here are some suggestions for things to do in Perth for kids:
Hillarys Boat Harbour, a popular marina and attraction located 23 kilometres north of Perth, where both locals and visitors hang out.
Hillarys is great for shopping, dining, keeping the kids entertained at the playground or beach, or just catching a sea breeze at the marina.
Many of the cafes and restaurants such as Zing Cafe and The Breakwater Tavern have sweeping views of the marina, and make a great place to just chill out and relax with family and friends.
It’s time to celebrate Deepavali in Perth - the Swan Festival of Lights will be held from the 9th to the 13th of November in the Supreme Court Gardens.
The festival will feature colourful music and dance performances from 6.30pm each night, and vegetarian food from 4.30pm each day.
There will also be a fireworks extravaganza to look forward to during each night’s festivities.

By sharing my experience, I hope this encourages students who have been contemplating studying in Australia to give it a go.
My time there still stands out as one of the best times in my life.
Here are three great reasons why studying in Perth will leave you with such a memorable experience.
Last week, I published an article about the Loritz Circus being in town - currently performing in Armadale till the 11th November and then moving on to perform at the Cannington Greyhounds from the 14th of November to the 9th of December.
Here is a feast for your eyes of some of the star performers in action.
