The weather in Perth is hotting up and so are the events springing up around Perth.

Here are Perth Walkabout’s selection of events and top things to do around Perth this spring:

Cunard British Film Festival 19 October to 16 November 2022

The much awaited British Film Festival celebrates its 10th year anniversary this year, offering a plethora of films to suit all tastes. Our picks this year are the romcom “What's Love got to do with it?” by Director Shekhar Kapur, which follows the trials and tribulations of an arranged marriage. From the makers of Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral - it's  a perfect movie for those looking for something light and bright.

The Cunard British Film Festival runs from the 19th October to the 16th November 2022 and will be showing across multiple locations - Luna Leederville, Luna on SX in Fremantle, Windsor in Nedlands and Palace Cinema Raine Square in the Perth CBD.

UBUD Writers & Readers Festival Perth 21 to 23 October 2022

Writing WA has partnered with the UBUD Writers & Readers Festival to bring a slice of the renowned literary event of words and ideas from South East Asia to Perth. Showcasing a melting pot of literature, food and film, this year’s program will feature an interesting mix of talks from writers, artists and performers.

Ranging from a session on the fast growing genre of flash fiction to a discussion on Siang Lu’s debut novel The Whitewash (a searing black comedy about the whitewashing of the Asian film industry), there is something for everyone.

Feeling hungry or wanting to whet your appetite?

There will be a cooking demonstration by the famous Chef Wayan Kresna Yasa who has recently released his cookbook Paon: Real Balinese Cooking. There will also be a special opportunity to enjoy his cooking at the session “Paon – a very special Literary Lunch”.

UBUD Writer & Readers Festival Perth is on at The Rechabite in Northbridge from Friday 21st October to Sunday 23rd October 2022.

If you can’t decide which talk to attend, there are special weekend ticket packages available with bundled sessions for the morning or afternoon.

Diwali Mela at Claremont Showgrounds 22 and 23 October 2022

Deepavali or Diwali Mela (the Festival of Lights) is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

This year in Perth the Indian Society of WA, in collaboration with its member Associations, will be hosting the Diwali Mela at the Claremont Showgrounds over the weekend of 22 October and 23 October 2022.

Head to the Claremont Showgrounds to get your fix of food, to browse arts and crafts and fashion market stalls, and to view cultural performances.

The Rechabite – October to December 2022

The Rechabite in Northbridge is pumping with a ton of events to keep us entertained.

Some of the upcoming events at the Rechabite include:

the Underground Comedy Showcase at the Goodwill Basement (7pm, 1st Friday every month)

Perth Comedy Festival Showcase (19th October)

the UBUD Writer & Readers Festival Perth (as mentioned above)

Perth International Jazz Festival (4th November to 6th November)

Queer Carnivale (18th November)

Scarborough Sunset Markets

Head to the Beach for the Scarborough Sunset Markets – the season has kicked off and it’s on every Thursday evening from 4pm to 9pm.

Each week will feature an awesome range of pop up food and market stalls from a diverse range of stall holders.

Live music will be provided by Dancehall crew High Drive who will be spinning the hottest Afro and Reggaeton beats at the Scarborough Beach Amphitheatre.

It’s all happening so kick back and relax by the beach - grab a seat at the Scarborough Beach Amphitheatre to enjoy the fun atmosphere or watch the sunset beachside on the grassed area or with a picnic rug or your beach towel on hand.

Hit the Beach

After all the excitement with attending events around Perth, hit the beach to cool off and to soak up some sunshine.

Grab your beach towel and head to any of our awesome beaches along the Sunset Coast. Our pick is Floreat Dog Beach for those with a furry friend in tow.

Don’t forget to bring along your trusty Tesalate beach towel to keep things sand free.
