Stella's Sea is a poignant book by local author Sally-Ann Jones set in the Perth coastal suburb of Cottesloe, centred around the main character Stella and her dog Pom. As you follow Stella throughout her day, you are privy to her innermost thoughts and feelings as she interacts with other characters such as Ari the Coastguard.
The author Sally-Ann Jones expertly narrates Stella’s life – we feel her anguish at a tragic event that has occurred in her past, a painful event that is taking her a long time to recover from. Whilst she goes about her daily routine in Cottesloe, it’s the little things that bring a spark of hope and joy to her life.

Sculpture by the Sea in Perth has come around again, and we are lucky to be able to enjoy this favourite free to public arts event, with the organisers overcoming some challenging times to be able to launch this year.
It seems a while ago now that the creator of Sculpture by the Sea David Handley had a dream, and it was his dream that a free to the public community arts event be created for Sydneysiders. Handley was inspired by large community art events like ‘Opera in the Park’ and ‘Symphony Under the Stars’, and it was this desire that resulted in the first Sculpture by the Sea being held in Sydney in 1997.
From there, things got bigger, and the event spread to Perth, when the event was launched at Cottesloe Beach, a beautiful location, that we all know, love and enjoy. This year's event has attracted over 70 local, interstate and international artists, whose art works will be on display from the 7th March to the 24th March to create this beautiful sculpture park.
The launch of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (better known by its abbreviation WAAPA) program of events for 2014 is drawing near. Discover what’s in store for us in the coming months with a round up of WAPAPA events starting with the month of March:
Beach is the quintessential Australian play – a story of an Australian beach, from sunrise to sunset. Written by Timothy Daly and Directed by Michael McCall, Beach is a journey through events that have shaped our National dreams as well as nightmares. The play will be performed by second year Music theatre students and will run from the 14th to 20th of March.
On a balmy evening, we decided to head down to the Maylands Twilights Markets at The Rise. The markets are a new initiative which kicked off on the Australia Day weekend, and are a popular Saturday night event amongst locals and visitors from other suburbs.
There are plenty of food and drink offerings among the food stalls lining both sides of the grassy amphitheatre. Marcelitas’ Empanadas from the Twilight Hawker markets in the CBD were there and busy as usual, and The Amaizing Stall with its twist on Venezuelan and Australian fusion food was doing a great trade with their offerings of arepa bread, made from maize.
Candy Chambers has finally arrived in Perth for the 2014 Fringe Festival, after having wooed and won the crowds at popular festivals such as the Adelaide Feast and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Just fresh from performing her show in Sydney, audiences in Perth are lucky to have Candy perform as part of the Fringe Festival.
Director David Paul Jobling is the man behind the curtains - actually the man in the front row as he and Candy bounced off each other playfully during the show.
