My partner asked me to accompany her to watch the premiere of Elles at Luna Cinemas. I hadn't got around to reading the synopsis of the film beforehand, so I started watching with no idea of what was to come other than my partner's brief comment that it involved a female journalist and was rated R due to sex scenes. As a typical red-blooded guy, I figured that at least there would be a bit of eye candy to look at even if the film was not to my taste.
As it turns out, I got things the wrong way around.
If you are planning a holiday, the Perth Holiday and Travel Expo will be on this weekend the 16th and 17th February 2013 at Crown Perth, previously Burswood.
The event is organised by Strahan Events and promises to be even bigger and better than previous years with over 100 exhibitors on hand. As with all events of this kind, you get the opportunity to talk to the travel experts and get help with planning your holiday. There will also be deals exclusive to the Expo, so if you are planning your holiday, this is an opportune time to get some advice on where to go and what to do when you get there.
Lovers of art in Perth are in for a treat when the CONTINUUM art exhibition opens its doors on Friday, 15 February at the Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery.
CONTINUUM is the latest solo art exhibition by Perth based artist Jennifer Sadler, which features drawings and paintings that focus on the coastal plains of the south west of Western Australia.
Sadler is an emerging local artist who has been acknowledged for her creative visual arts with a first prize in the Victoria Park Art Awards, and a high commendation from the South Perth Emerging Artist Awards.
Born in Jamaica, Sadler also lived as a child in the highlands of Scotland. She has travelled extensively around Australia, including our own South-West. Sadler is able to draw upon her time in such contrasting environments to depict her own interpretation of the feel and colour of different locales. In this exhibition she is concentrating on the South-West's coastal plains.
My partner and I headed out to the Perth Fringe Festival on Thursday night to check out Xavier Toby's comedy act, titled White Trash. With its focus on racism amongst ourselves, our family and friends, and Australia as a whole, I was interested to see how Xavier would tackle this touchy topic while still attempting to get a laugh from the audience.
From a quick glance around the intimate tent seating, it appeared that Xavier would at least have a receptive crowd. There were quite a few mixed couples, and a healthy proportion of people from all sorts of racial backgrounds.
The Perth Walkabout Monthly Wrap is published at the start of each month to provide a snapshot of articles that hit the headlines in the last 4 weeks.
Here is Perth Walkabout's Monthly Wrap for the month of January:
A fun night was had by all at the PMH speed networking event, which was kindly organised by Westpac Premium to raise funds for the PMH Foundation. $2100 was raised, with Westpac generously matching the money collected at the event to double the donation to PMH Foundation to $4200.
Formalities for the evening kicked off with drinks on the balcony top of the Rydges Hotel. It was a warmish night and we were grateful for some drinks to keep us cool before the night’s proceedings got going.
Like myself, most of my fellow participants had not attended a speed networking event before.
